This Halloween from 11 AM to 2 PM, Mill Creek’s own, Darci Phenix, will teach a workshop on botanical printing with vintage textiles. She’s collected embroidered napkins, crocheted doilies and lace table runners from local vendors here in Aurora for you to print on.
You’ll choose a handful of local dye plants to work with from a provided assortment of fall favorites including oak and maple leaves. This workshop is very much beginner friendly as the fabric will be pre scoured, mordanted and immediately ready to print on.
People have been making dyes out of plants since the Neolithic era. This workshop is a wonderful way to connect with our shared humanity and to root in an ancient creative practice. The process of arranging these florals feels very ritualistic, and setting a seasonal intention as you lay out your plants is encouraged.
Note: Please feel free to bring stained or worn textiles that you’d like to recover. Botanical printing is amazing for this.
