The Fragrance: A herbaceous medley of sage, ambrette seed and basil blends with an aromatic accord of cardamom, black pepper and black tea while an infusion of vetiver, birch and violet leaf adds earthiness. Warm, creamy notes of sandalwood, vanilla and rye balance with the cool, dry notes of ironwood and black walnut, completing this rich, flinty blend of herbs, woods and spices.
The Product: Utilizing apothecary inspired bottles filled with exquisite fragrance, the scent permeates the air via reeds which are inserted into the bottle. The reeds absorb the fragrance and subtly distribute it throughout the air, providing lasting, beautiful scent. Customize the intensity by flipping the reeds — flip every day for more intense scent or once a week for more subtle fragrance.

Top: Violet Leaf, Sage, Basil, Ambrette Seed

Mid: Cardamom, Pepper, Black Tea, Birch Leaf

Base: Ironwood, Vetiver, Sandalwood, Rye

The Inspiration behind Ironwood:

Imagine a fall fragrance with the perfect harmony of woody, green and herbal notes. A scent that ushers in the fall season, keeps us warm and cozy through the winter, then lingers seamlessly into early spring. This was the initial inspiration behind our newest fragrance, Ironwood. The scent opens with a unique herbaceous medley of sage, ambrette seed and basil. It’s then balanced with an earthy infusion of rich sandalwood, spicy cardamom and fresh vetiver to create an unforgettable botanical story. That’s when the Antica co-founders Susanne & Shelley knew; they just had to collaborate with their dear friend, Seattle-based artist Judith Bigham on the artwork for Ironwood.

They started by walking Judy through Ironwood note by note, allowing her to immerse herself in its botanical elements to spark inspiration. She then went to work, first creating color palette samples for the packaging. From there, Judy created a stunning series of hand drawn and painted botanicals exclusively for the collection, using mediums of India ink, charcoal and watercolor. Because of their great friendship and true appreciation for Judy’s artistic prowess, the entire collaboration felt very effortless and organic. By giving Judy immense artistic freedom in this project, her exquisite work brings the essence of Ironwood to life—from the olfactory senses into the visual.
